Duvet Guide

There are so many duvets to choose from, it can be hard to know which one to choose. We spend almost a third of our lives in bed and sleep is a physical need just like water and food. That’s why it’s a good idea to spend some time finding one – or more – duvets that suit you best.

The seasons

Since a comfortable and even temperature is good for your sleep, you may need different duvets throughout the year. It’s like putting on your winter jacket in the winter and switching to a summer jacket when temperatures rise again in the summer.

The same goes for duvets. They have different properties, including insulation; influencing whether a duvet feels cold or warm to sleep with. What temperature you think is a comfortable sleeping temperature, only you can decide. Experts recommend 14-18 degrees celcius, but again, remember that only you know if this is right for you.

While we can’t directly tell you which duvet to choose, we can make some general recommendations:

  • If you normally feel warm at night, we recommend choosing a light or extra light duvet during the summer months. The rest of the year you can choose a medium duvet.
  • However, if you feel cold at night, we recommend a medium duvet in summer and a warm or extra warm duvet for the rest of the year.
  • If you are neither very hot nor very cold, we recommend a light or medium duvet in the summer and a warm duvet for the rest of the year.

What is fill power?

The fill power is an expression of the down filling’s insulating capacity. The higher the value, the higher the quality of the down and its ability to insulate against the cold in the bedroom.

What does it mean to you?

If you choose down with a high fill power, you need less filling to achieve the same warmth compared to choosing down with a low fill power. This gives you a lighter duvet that will last for many years.
