Duvet Guide

There’s a lot of duvets to choose from, and it can be difficult to know which one is right for you. We spend nearly a third of our lives in bed, and sleep is a basic physical need—just like food and water. That’s why it’s worth taking the time to find one—or more—duvets that suit you as well as possible.

The seasons

Since a comfortable and consistent temperature is important for a good night’s sleep, it’s quite possible that you may need different duvets throughout the year. It’s similar to how you wear a winter coat in the colder months and switch to a lighter jacket when summer returns.

The same logic applies to duvets. They come with different properties, including insulation—meaning whether a duvet feels cool, medium, warm, or extra warm. What you consider a comfortable sleeping temperature is entirely up to you. While the recommended bedroom temperature is between 14–18°C, only you can say what feels right for you.

Although we can’t tell you exactly which duvet to choose, we can offer a few general recommendations:

  • If you usually feel warm at night, we recommend a light or extra light duvet during the summer months. For the rest of the year, a medium duvet is a good choice.
  • If you tend to feel cold at night, go for a medium duvet in summer and a warm or extra warm duvet for the rest of the year.
  • If you’re somewhere in between, we recommend a light or medium duvet for summer, and a medium or warm duvet for the rest of the year.

What is fill power?

Fill Power refers to the insulating ability of the down filling. The higher the value, the better the quality of the down and its ability to insulate against the cold in your bedroom.

What does it mean for you?

If you choose down with a high Fill Power, less filling is needed to achieve the same warmth level—compared to using down with a lower Fill Power. This means you get a lighter duvet that will last for many years.
