Pillow Guide

Your choice of pillow is crucial for a good night’s sleep.
If you often wake up feeling less than fully rested, it may be because you’re sleeping with the wrong pillow. When choosing a pillow, you should take the following into consideration:

Your sleeping position

If you usually sleep on your stomach, you should choose a low to medium-height pillow—preferably a softer one than if you sleep on your back, for example. However, we strongly recommend trying to sleep on your back or side instead, as this is better for your neck.

When sleeping on your back, your neck needs more support, and you should still go for a low to medium-height pillow. If you mostly sleep on your side, you should choose a medium to high pillow—the firmness (soft or firm) depends entirely on your personal preference.

Pillow filling

When choosing your next pillow, it’s also important to consider what type of filling you prefer. Let’s take a closer look at the three types of filling we offer in our range:

Natural filling

At Quilts of Denmark, we use down, feathers, and silk in our pillows with natural filling. The advantage of down and/or feather pillows is that they feel incredibly soft and luxurious, and the filling can be adjusted or “shaped” to your liking—something many people appreciate.

Down and feathers also help wick moisture away from your head, which is a plus if you tend to get warm at night. It’s important to wash your pillow regularly to keep the down and feathers fresh and fluffy. You can read more about how to wash your pillow here.

Fiber filling

Fiber is a significantly more affordable filling type compared to down, feathers, and foam. One of the key advantages of fiber is that pillows with fiber filling are generally less expensive than down or foam pillows.

Whether you prefer fiber or down/feathers often comes down to what you’re used to sleeping with. We also frequently hear that people with allergies to down and feathers tend to choose a fiber pillow.

Foam filling

We use foam filling in all our ergonomic pillows. Ergonomic pillows come in various shapes and are designed to relieve pressure on your neck and shoulders.

Our foam pillows are made with memory foam, which adapts to your body and provides support throughout the night. That’s why it’s important to choose a pillow that suits your specific needs—otherwise, you risk sleeping in an incorrect position.
