Bed linen with history
The art of silk production was invented in China 5,000 years ago, and the Chinese are still leaders when it comes to raw silk and refined silk products such as high-quality silk bedding. The larvae of the silkworm, which spin the fine silk threads, feed on freshly chopped mulberry leaves. Hence the name mulberry silk. After 30 days, the larvae are fully grown and begin spinning the cocoon, which consists of a single silk thread measuring 3,000–4,000 meters. Only the finest part of the thread—about 800 meters—is used for weaving silk bedding. The production process is carried out without the use of any chemicals.
The Finest Quality
Silk bedding from Butterfly Silk of Copenhagen is made from the finest mulberry silk with a momme weight of 19. The bedding is satin-woven and features a zipper closure. Naturally, Butterfly Silk of Copenhagen is Oeko-Tex 100 certified.
What is Momme?
Momme is a method of measuring silk quality based on its weight. Momme indicates the silk’s quality and durability. Butterfly Silk of Copenhagen is made exclusively in 19 Momme. This is a Class A mulberry silk—also known as Mulberry silk—which is the silk equivalent of Egyptian cotton.
Washing Instructions
The bedding can be washed by hand or in a machine on a delicate cycle at 30–40°C. Use a silk detergent that does not contain enzymes. For machine washing, the covers should be turned inside out. Never use fabric softener on silk bedding. Ironing is not necessary, but if desired, it should be done before the fabric is completely dry. Silk bedding should not be tumble dried.
